Student & Parent Responsibility
Student Responsibility
The key to success in Band is regular practice!
Check out the "Home Practice" page for more tips on practicing.
The beginning student must practice each day.
Basic skills are learned through daily repetition of small group materials.
Just as we are learning a new language (reading music is a new literacy skill), students are also developing fine motor skills in hands and face to become successful instrumentalists!
The student is responsible to check his/her lesson time and attend each lesson. (Lost your lesson calendar? Check Google Classroom or ask Mrs. Kamp for help!
Each student is responsible for preparing the assigned lesson material.
From Standard of Excellence book
Assigned scales or other exercises
Materials assigned should be considered like any other homework.
Parent / Guardian Responsibility
Help to set a regular practice time so it becomes a routine.
Remind students to practice.
Listen to the student and praise their progress.
Remind students to bring their instrument and music to the weekly lesson time and for Band rehearsals.
Special Note to Parents
The glamour of playing an instrument may wear off quickly. The students need a lot of encouragement at this time.
Excuses for missing lessons or not practicing are signs of trouble. Feel free to call me or come in to discuss this at school.
Parents can share in the responsibility of educating their child by encouragement and showing interest in their studies.
Private Lessons are a fantastic way for struggling students to get extra help & for students who need more of a challenge to learn new skills!
