Solo & Ensemble Festival

What is Solo & Ensemble?

Each March, students have the opportunity to participate in a local festival hosted by WSMA. The purpose of this festival is to provide students with an opportunity to perform solos and or small group pieces and receive feedback from other experienced, professional music educators. Students receive a rating and medal. It is a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate your abilities and build confidence in your playing. Family and friends are encouraged to attend. This should be a day to celebrate and encourage you and your musicianship! Solo and Ensemble participation is open to interested 7th and 8th Graders (6th graders who take private lessons may be asked to participate as well)

Should I Do Solo & Ensemble?

Do you like playing your instrument?

Would you like to show off your skills for an audience?

Would you like a one-on-one session with a professional on your instrument so you can improve?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then you should consider participating!

What Should I Play?

Play a “solo” or “ensemble” (duets & trios are preferred) with friends of similar instruments. Please choose something challenging that you will have to practice a lot to play well. Piano solos are also encouraged!

Solo & Ensemble is not the place to perform "pop" songs or songs from your favorite movie. Most selections for Solo & Ensemble need to be on an approved list. Mrs. Kamp will help you find a piece that is on the list and fits your playing style & ability! :)
