Course Overview & Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Music students at LDMS will learn about music through singing, playing instruments, reading, writing, and listening. During the year, we will work together on music literacy that will help students become better musicians. Every ensemble will spend the majority of the year learning music for the concerts. Additional written work may be required to reinforce concepts learned or to introduce new ideas that correspond with the music. In addition, singing / playing tests may be required of every Band student during group lessons, which are essential in determining individual comprehension and growth.

Scheduling Information

Band meets every other day for the entire school year.

Because ensembles are only 45 minutes, all students in Band will also be required to attend 20 minute group lessons that will take place several times per quarter on a rotating basis. These lesson times take place during OTHER classes (core or Encore) and students will be expected to miss part of these classes to attend the lessons. Make-up lesson times will be available throughout each quarter as needed; however, students should make every effort to attend their scheduled group lesson time. (More information on Lessons page).

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, & Be Engaged.

Detailed expectations will be taught in class. The whole band will benefit from everyone’s cooperation; we will accomplish more, sound great, and have more fun! Problems with following the guidelines will result in consequences based on severity and frequency. Consequences may include: Time out of rehearsal, student filling out a re-focus form, contact home, detention, or an office referral.
