Assessments & Grading

More detailed information about your student’s grades (specifics on projects, written work, and lessons) can be located on Infinite Campus and / or Google Classroom. Questions can be discussed with Mrs. Kamp via phone, Email, or an in-person conference time. Quarter grades will consist of Formative and Summative assessments in the following 3 categories:

1) Small Group Lessons: Based on individual performance and progress. During lessons students will have the opportunities to demonstrate their level of proficiency on their instruments and understanding of content standards. These lesson times take place during OTHER classes (core or Encore) and students will be expected to miss part of these classes to attend these lessons (20min). Make-up lesson times will be available throughout each quarter as needed; however, students should make every effort to attend their scheduled group lesson time.

2) Rehearsal Techniques (weekly grades): This is an assessment of the students’ rehearsal skills as ensemble musicians. Proper rehearsal technique is extremely important in a large ensemble. The Band needs to work together as a team, and each member contributes to its success. Students need to always come prepared and do their best work during rehearsals.

• Based on preparation, conduct / appropriate participation, punctuality, and proper attire.

• Participation is required – special situations require a parent note/Email/phone call in advance.

• Students that do not attend the concert for any reason will complete a make-up performance assessment.

• See dates at end of this document. Detailed information will be sent home closer to performance dates.

• Skill performance assessments and / or skill assessment recordings may take place in quarters where large group performances / concerts do not occur.
