When to access this resource: You observe warning signs in yourself or another person including thoughts of suicide, making threats to harm self or others, engaging in self-injurious behavior, agitation, aggression, isolation or psychosis. Trained volunteers will answer your call, walk you through interventions and connect you to services if needed. If the situation is life-threatening, please call 911.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

988 offers 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be:

  • Thoughts of suicide

  • Mental health or substance use crisis, or

  • Any other kind of emotional distress

People can call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org for themselves or if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.

988 serves as a universal entry point so that no matter where you live in the United States, you can reach a trained crisis counselor who can help.

WA Recovery Lifeline | 1-866-789-1511

The Washington Recovery Help Line is an anonymous and confidential helpline that provides crisis intervention and referral services for Washington State residents. Professionally trained volunteers and staff are available to provide emotional support 24 hours a day and offer local treatment resources for substance abuse, problem gambling, and mental health.


Admissions to Inpatient Behavioral Health Services

When to access this resource: When you feel that a person needs more intensive care during a crisis and/or needs safety and mental health supervision outside of the home. Inpatient care is care provided in a hospital or other type of inpatient facility, where you or a loved one is admitted, and spends at least one night—sometimes more—depending on your condition. While in inpatient care, you received support from nurses and care staff and may attend individual therapy or groups until you can safely return home.

Available 24/7 by phone or walk-in. Youth receive a mental health evaluation by a licensed clinician and level of care is assessed for ongoing support (i.e. outpatient, inpatient, outside referral). Typically, they accept youth who age 13+, but can accept 12-year-olds on a case-by-case basis.


Seattle Children's Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Unit | 206-987-2195 or 206-987-2164

This is the number for the acute crisis stabilization unit. If you are already at a local emergency room, ask your social worker about a referral/request services with Seattle Children's. Once you receive a referral, you can get a mental health evaluation and the evaluator will see if the child meets the criteria for inpatient hospitalization. You can also call the admission line directly.

Please call the number listed. You are also welcome to drop in. We can accommodate and schedule same-day mental health assessments. The assessment takes about an hour and is conducted by a licensed clinician. During the assessment, your family history, current and past health, employment, medications, previous treatments, legal concerns, trauma and triggers and more are documented to ensure that you are placed with the most appropriate group and services. Be prepared to enter group therapy within 72 hours after the assessment process.
