On your web site, make sure that the following is visible:
2-3 paragraphs analyzing the Networking case study specifics ("low level")
2-3 paragraphs analyzing the Case Study activity ("high level")
Consider the case study on networking and analyze the activity on tgre levels:
First, write 2-3 paragraphs analyzing the problem of networking and procedures you and your peers proposed in class.
You can use the following prompts to guide you, but do not need to restrict to these questions alone!
Was there an approach that you felt you walked away with that you could try out? Perhaps it needs to be refined, but feels like it will work in theory. What would you need to do to refine it?
What "black boxes" can you identify for yourself? These might be "instructions" that a peer seems to be able to implement, but you are not sure how you would do it.
What "black boxes" can you identify for your peers? Was there an "instruction" that you are comfortable implementing, but you noticed a peer seemed less so?
Would you expect to iterate and refine your approach (i.e., plan/do/evaluate)? How would you do this? Where is the "evaluate" step, for example?
Do you think the costs change for you? This could be with respect to other people and/or depending on other factors. Can you identify the factors that are specific to you? (e.g., time of day, etc.)
Then, write 2-3 paragraphs analyzing the activity as a whole.
Again, you can use the following prompts to guide you, but do not need to restrict to these questions alone!
How do you think this activity would have differed if you were asked to complete it individually outside of class?
Did you notice any themes? For example, similarities or differences across your peers' approaches or questions.
Did you find yourself surprised at any specific moments?
The problem of networking and procedures you and your peers proposed in class
Based on the proposed procedures of networking my group came up with the one approach I feel like I can walk away with is part 2 step 2 of finding someone who seem new/easy to talk to. I feel like this is something I can manage. However, it does need refinement because in some cases if I find someone I think is easy/new to talk to and it turns out they are awkward/ there's awkward silence I will sometimes be awkward as well. Unfortunately, I don't know how to refine this part of the procedure so its not awkward. I would consider this as my black box and I know my group have also agree this is also a black box for them as well because of the reasons I stated above as well. Additionally, another reason my group collectively agree this is our black box is because one thing to mention about step 2 is if you cannot complete step 2 then you cannot complete the other steps.
Yes I do expect to refine the approach my group came up with to be talior to me. The way I would do this is in step 2 I would include a condition where if the person turn out to be awkward or if there is awkward silce then do this instead. Currently I don't know what that thing is and is something I am figuring out. The evaluate step could be either 2 places at the end of step 2 or step 6. If all goes well and made it to step 6 then you can evaluate what went well. If I find myself at a dead end on step 2 then I can evaluate what went "wrong" and try again with another person. The cost of networking does changes for me based on time of day if its in the evening I would be tired to talk to and might not be very chatty.
The way this activity would have been different if I was asked to complete this individually outside of class is by the procedures my group created . The procedure I would of came up with would have been tailor to my experience with networking which has been very little. For example, I have gone to zero career event and only set one appointment with the Career Development Center so far. Additionally, another way my procedure might have been different is I also might not have come up with certain procedures because I don't have much experience in career fairs.
I did notice a theme among our group and other groups. The similarities I saw were is attending a event is the easiest and everyone agree getting to step 6 is the hardest things to achieve. It felt like everyone was all in agreeance that they also don't know how to get here and that networking ends at the small talking. The differences I saw were the area in which you can network in (the network scenarios) such as club meeting, info sessions, etc. Their was a specific moment where I found myself surprise and thats when everyone also struggles with networking and its a universally issue everyone face .
