This is my "algorithm" to achieve this assignment its a sequence of instructions to get me to my final product.

This is the physical sketch of my lantern! Here is the different component I will be using for my latern the circuit and the distance sensor will be placed inside the lantern. I am thinking of having the distance sensor face outside the box, so it detects motion, and the lights will move faster.
