Intro to Business 

Business, Management and Administrative Pathway Course

Grade Level Placement:  09, 10, 11, and 12

This semester-long course is designed to help students develop personal and workplace skills in the areas of business operations, entrepreneurship, economic awareness, consumerism, careers in business, and forms of business ownerships. The course covers computational and rational skills essential for students as they become citizens, consumers, employees and employers. An exploration of financial statements and elements of organizations is conducted as students work to solve business related problems and learn about emerging careers and economies in the business world.

Entrepreneurship

This course explores the role of entrepreneurial business in the United States and the impact on the national and global economy. Characteristics of an entrepreneur are highlighted and explored: skills, attitudes, and commitment are necessary to create and successfully operate a business venture. This course provides training on key elements of a business plan. Emphasis is placed on the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship as a career choice. Key projects for the semester include "High School Food Court" and "MRH Shark Tank".

Marketing

Business, Management and Administrative Pathway Course

Marketing is a fast-paced class that introduces students to the marketing principles that begin with the creation of the product and its journey to the final destination, which is the consumer. The class content includes units of study in personal selling, advertising and promotion, distribution, pricing, management, entrepreneurship and career exploration. The college and/or career bound student enhances his/her chances to succeed by understanding the role marketing plays in his/her life. Students will work in teams with a local marketing firm to solve authentic marketing problems and develop skills valuable to the workplace.

Business Communications 

Business, Management and Administrative Pathway Course

Business Communications is a course of communications skills needed in the business environment. Course content includes writing memoranda, letters, reports, resumes, and electronic messages; delivering oral presentations; and developing interpersonal skills. Critical thinking and problem solving skills are emphasized. Development of these skills is integrated with the use of technology.

Business Law

Business, Management and Administrative Pathway Course

1/2 Unit/S  (2nd Semester)   Prerequisite:  1 Credit in Business Pathway     Credit Type: Practical Arts (PA)


This course explores the legal environment in which businesses operate and studies the interaction between business and the legal system. Students examine various areas of the law, which are integral to operating a business enterprise. Topics include contracts, torts, agency, Uniform Commercial Code, ethical and criminal implications of business actions, property laws, and the legal aspects of different business entities. 

Personal Finance:  Business

This course presents essential knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about real-world financial issues.  Students learn how choices influence occupational options and future earnings potential.  Students also learn how to apply decision–making skills to evaluate spending, saving, and credit decisions and how to make effective use of income to achieve personal success


Meets Missouri “Personal Finance” requirement.

Supervised Business Experience: Business

1/2 Unit/S     Prerequisite:  2 Credits in Business, Administration pathway, concurrent business class    

Credit Type: Practical Arts (PA)

The Supervised Business Experience (SBE) program is a workplace learning experience, which is an extension of the business education classroom. The SBE program provides on-the-job work experience that gives students the opportunity to master academic and workplace skills.  Students make connections with real world expectations in terms of accuracy of work, production, staying on task, responsibility for work—all components which are stressed in the classroom setting.  The work experience reinforces the importance of interpersonal skills, which gives students a forum to develop positive workplace experiences as they enter the workforce or prepare for continued education.  The SBE program facilitates the transition from the classroom to the workplace. Current employment is recommended with a minimum of 10 hours per week.
