Leaper Community,
We’re excited about the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences! This is always a great opportunity to connect and collaborate in supporting our students. Be sure to sign up before the conference sign-up closes on March 3rd.
A quick reminder: there will be no school on March 13th, 14th, and 17th.
Also, please note that Spring Break will be from April 7th to April 11th—a perfect time to rest, recharge, and enjoy quality family time.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the conferences!

Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-Up:
Sign-ups will close on Monday, March 3rd.
Our School Improvement Team, which includes both staff and parent input, has developed a set of Parent-Teacher Conference Norms to help ensure these meetings are productive. Please review the following:
Upchurch Parent-Teacher Conference Norms:
In-person Conferences Only: We look forward to meeting with you in person to discuss your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements.
Focus on Parents and Teachers: To ensure a productive conversation centered on your child’s growth and learning, we kindly recommend (though it is not required) that children do not attend the conference. We understand that this may not be possible for everyone, but if you can, please consider keeping the conference just for adults.
Conference Times: We appreciate your cooperation in attending during the scheduled evening time slots for Parent-Teacher Conferences. If you are unable to attend, teachers will send home important information about your child’s progress. Please note that teachers will not be available for meetings outside of these designated times.
*March 10: Course request workbooks are due back to 5th Grade Teachers.
* March 18 at 1:30 -- Transition Meeting: Administrators, counselors, students from Millard Middle Schools will visit Upchurch at the same time. Fifth grade students are grouped according to the middle school they will attend. Meetings last approximately 60-75 minutes. Each student will receive their 2025-2026 Middle School Curriculum Handbook.
* May 2nd 12:00-2:40 -- Middle School Orientation: Buses will be available for Upchurch students going to Andersen Middle School. For students going to other middle schools, it is the responsibility of the parent to organize transportation. Middle schools provide letters/messages to fifth grade families with transition information including transportation details. All middle schools serve lunch during this transition event. The elementary schools take care of the lunch charge at their buildings.
We would love your help spreading the word about the job posting for this position next year. Please feel free to share the posting with others or repost it on the Upchurch Facebook page for those who may be interested in applying.

The 4th Grade HAL students have been learning about the construction of bridges with the Nebraska 4-H Extension Office. They learned about different truss structures and how they help distribute the load. As a final project, the students created their own bridges out of popsicle sticks, calculated how much each bridge would cost to build if each popsicle stick were a beam costing $1,500 each and each partial stick cost half of that. This week, those bridges were brought to the school and tested to see how much load they could handle. The bridges, their estimated costs, and the amount of load they could handle are on display in the front hallway.
