Upchurch Community,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the final Leaper Ledger of 2024! Today marks the end of our first semester and second quarter. Our next newsletter will be sent out on January 10.
As we wrap up the second quarter and head into winter break, we want to sincerely thank our families for their incredibly generous donations. Your support for the baked potato bar, taco bar, and gift cards for staff competitions during the holiday countdown made this time of year even more memorable. We are truly grateful for your kindness and involvement in making this season special for our entire school community.
On behalf of the entire Upchurch staff, we wish you a safe and joyful winter break. Students will be out of session from December 23 to January 6, and our office staff will also take some time off to enjoy the holiday season with their families.
We can’t wait to welcome students back on Tuesday, January 7. See you in January!
Mrs. Lindsey Harrahill

Millard Public Schools is currently seeking a $158 million bond to address security, renovations, and maintenance at all 35 schools. The bond would not increase the tax rate. To learn how this is possible and more about what the bond would do, attend a community information meeting. All meetings begin at 6 p.m.

5th Grade Parents:
Each January fifth grade students take the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment to help determine the appropriate math placement for them in middle school. Please see the letter on the right for more information.
Our fifth grade HAL students (last names G-Z) learned about Meteorology at MCC North Express on December 6. They created weather maps for the day that we were there and learned about the symbols that are included on a weather map. They also made barometers and learned a little about how they are used to predict the weather.
Our fifth grade HAL students (last names A-F) traveled to MCC Sarpy to learn about and try their hand at using 3-D pens. They also learned about an individual who uses 3-D technology to create prosthetics for animals. They were challenged to think about what would need to be considered to create prosthetics for specific animals and to create a model prototype of a prosthetic device. Then, students had some time to use the 3-D pens to create items of their choosing. The rest of the fifth grade HAL students will be going on this field trip on January 24.
Upcoming HAL Events:
January 10: 5th Grade HAL (last names A-F) will go to MCC Sarpy for a Forensic Science Workshop.
January 22, February 5, and February 19: 4th Grade will have the 4-H Extension Office present Bridge Architecture and Construction at Upchurch.
January 24: 5th Grade HAL (last names G-Z) will go to MCC Sarpy for 3-D Pen Creations
January 29: 5th Grade HAL (all) will have the 4-H Extension Office present CSI: DNA at Upchurch.
