Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend conferences this past Thursday! We look forward to meeting with the rest of our fifth grade families this coming Tuesday, March 10th.

Fifth graders received a middle school curriculum handbook as well as a 6th grade course request form this past Thursday. Course request forms will need to be returned by Monday, March 9th. Please take a look at these documents to prepare your fifth grader for middle school registration. Middle schools will come visit our Wheeler Wildcats on Tuesday, March 10th and we will register them for their classes.

Order Your Yearbook
Time to order a yearbook!
When the end of the year rolls around, many fifth graders want a yearbook to commemorate their final year of elementary school.
Visit treering.com/validate to order a Wheeler yearbook before March 23rd.
Please note - extras may not always be printed for a last minute purchase.

Winter Weather & Recess Guidelines
As winter moves into spring, please help your fifth grader dress warmly for school each day. Cold weather can pose safety concerns, and we appreciate your support in keeping students protected.
When the "feels like" temperature is 32 degrees or below, students must wear a winter coat to participate in outdoor recess. Students who do not have a coat will be asked to check the lost and found for one to use. If a coat is not available, the student will remain indoors during recess. If your child is in need of a winter coat, please reach out to their homeroom teacher. We are happy to assist you!

A reminder that cell phones and watches need to be turned off and left in backpacks during the school day. If you need to be in contact with your 5th grader during school hours, please email their classroom teacher or call the office.

All 5th grade iPads will ONLY go home when students have specific school assignments to complete. If that is the case, students will sign out their iPad with their classroom teacher. On all other days, they will be plugged in and charged at school. We are intentional about building iPad responsibility and we hold 5th graders to high expectations on their devices.

In 5th grade, spelling is an important part of our curriculum. Our goal is to make spelling a more integral part of students' everyday writing and part of the editing and revising process. We will work on a specific spelling pattern each week and focus on practicing the pattern, looking at the word in the context of a sentence, and applying the pattern to our original writing.

Each 5th grader has a planner that will be filled out each day. Planners should be checked at home for homework assignments, upcoming tests, and other important information. Please sign your child's planner each night.

Water Bottles & Snacks

Double check that your child is bringing a water bottle to school with them every day. There is a bottle filling station close to our classrooms.

Water bottles should only have water in them - flavoring needs to stay at home. Thank you!
Students can bring a healthy snack to school that can be finished quickly so we can continue our learning.

An important note: all snacks should be peanut and tree nut free. Snacks that have peanuts or tree nuts as an ingredient will be returned home with the student.
