Friday, May 1st
On Friday, May 1st, our fifth graders will be visiting Beadle Middle School. We will be at Beadle from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and then return to Wheeler in time for dismissal. If your fifth grader will not be attending Beadle next year, please reach out to your child's teacher to discuss options for attendance that day.
Most students like to order a hot lunch as they eat for the first time in the Beadle cafeteria!
The lunch menu choices that day are:

Cold Lunch from Home
If your child elects to bring a cold lunch from home, please try to keep all items disposable.

Our Human Growth and Development Health Lessons are just around the corner!
Thank you to those families that were able to make it to our Human Growth and Development Parent Meeting this past Wednesday. If you were not able to make it, no worries! Your fifth grader will bring home a parent handout with more information about our health curriculum. Please reach out if you have any questions or are considering opting your child out of these lessons.
Our lessons will be held on Friday, May 15th and Friday, May 22nd.

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,
It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching the end of the year and getting ready to celebrate our 5th graders as they graduate from Elementary School!
To help make their final week extra special, we are offering 5th Grade Shoutouts. These celebratory messages will be displayed on the television at the school entrance and will run on repeat throughout the entire last week of school.
Shoutout Details:
Cost: $10
Display: School entrance TV, all week long
Photos: For their “then” picture, you may use a baby photo, a first‑day‑of‑Kindergarten picture, a Preschool photo, or anything that reflects how far they’ve come.

All 5th grade iPads will ONLY go home when students have specific school assignments to complete. If that is the case, students will sign out their iPad with their classroom teacher. On all other days, they will be plugged in and charged at school. We are intentional about building iPad responsibility and we hold 5th graders to high expectations on their devices.

In 5th grade, spelling is an important part of our curriculum. Our goal is to make spelling a more integral part of students' everyday writing and part of the editing and revising process. We will work on a specific spelling pattern each week and focus on practicing the pattern, looking at the word in the context of a sentence, and applying the pattern to our original writing.

Each 5th grader has a planner that will be filled out each day. Planners should be checked at home for homework assignments, upcoming tests, and other important information. Please sign your child's planner each night.
