Week of January 5th - January 9th
Algebra Aptitude Assessment
Fifth graders will be taking the Algebra Aptitude Assessment on Wednesday, January 14th. This test will help determine the appropriate sixth grade math placement for your child.
Please make sure your child is on time, well rested, and has had a filling breakfast so that they are able to do their best!
Middle School Information
The Bridge to Early College program at Central Middle School is designed as a preparatory program for Early College High School at Millard South. Early College currently pulls students from across the entire district, and our goal is for the Bridge program at Central to do the same. Here is the flyer for the informational meeting on Monday, January 12. We want to ensure that 5th graders across the district are aware of this opportunity.
This year, the application will be electronic only and submitted through a Google Form, which can be accessed here. Applications are due January 22. We will not be taking late applications as that creates challenges in our acceptance process.
We also have an Information Page on our website that includes links to all of this information.
🧑🍳 Future Chefs Cooking Competition! 🧑🍳
Do you have an aspiring fifth grade chef in your family? Time to enter Millard's annual competition and possibly compete on a national level! Details are below.
📃 Report Cards 📃
Fifth Graders will be bringing home their 2nd quarter report cards on January 16, 2026.
Winter Weather & Recess Guidelines
As temperatures continue to drop, please help your fifth grader dress warmly for school. Cold weather can pose safety concerns, and we appreciate your support in keeping students protected.
Thank you for helping us keep down the distractions in our classrooms!
Yearbook Cover Contest!
Each year fifth graders are invited to illustrate the front cover of our yearbook. Your fifth grader is encouraged to try out for this awesome art competition!
Tips for a Good Entry:
• Use lots of color, including the background. Don’t leave uncolored white space.
• Mix up your medium, use crayons, watercolors, markers, pastels, etc.
• Do not add text too close to the edge of the page. Leave 1 inch of space around the edges, (no text) just color. This will avoid print issues when the art is applied to the cover.
Order Your Yearbook
It's only November, but a great time to purchase a yearbook for your fifth grader! Yearbooks are currently 10% off and can be ordered today. As May rolls around, many fifth graders want a yearbook to commemorate their final year of elementary school.

Each 5th grader has a planner that will be filled out each day. Planners should be checked at home for homework assignments, upcoming tests, and other important information. Please sign your child's planner each night.
Water bottles should only have water in them - flavoring needs to stay at home. Thank you!
An important note: all snacks should be peanut and tree nut free. Snacks that have peanuts or tree nuts as an ingredient will be returned home with the student.
We’d love to have you join us this year to help keep the Wheeler community strong.
