Winter Testing is Here!
Math MAP is December 9th and 10th.
On November 25th, fifth graders were sent home with a letter about the Algebra Aptitude Assessment that will be given in January. This test will help determine the appropriate sixth grade math placement for your child.
Winter Weather
Please be sure that your fifth grader is properly dressed for the increasingly colder temperatures. Fifth graders may bring a hat, gloves, and snow boots along with their jacket. With snow boots, students can still walk in the snow.
Please no snow pants. The addition of this clothing item prevents students from getting out to recess in time and returning back to class as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Yearbook Cover Contest!
Each year fifth graders are invited to illustrate the front cover of our yearbook. Your fifth grader is encouraged to try out for this awesome art competition!
Tips for a Good Entry:
• Use lots of color, including the background. Don’t leave uncolored white space.
• Mix up your medium, use crayons, watercolors, markers, pastels, etc.
• Do not add text too close to the edge of the page. Leave 1 inch of space around the edges, (no text) just color. This will avoid print issues when the art is applied to the cover.
Order Your Yearbook
It's only November, but a great time to purchase a yearbook for your fifth grader! Yearbooks are currently 10% off and can be ordered today. As May rolls around, many fifth graders want a yearbook to commemorate their final year of elementary school.

All 5th grade iPads will ONLY go home when students have specific school assignments to complete. If that is the case, students will sign out their iPad with their classroom teacher. On all other days, they will be plugged in and charged at school. We are intentional about building iPad responsibility and we hold 5th graders to high expectations on their devices.

In 5th grade, spelling is an important part of our curriculum. Our goal is to make spelling a more integral part of students' everyday writing and part of the editing and revising process. We will work on a specific spelling pattern each week and focus on practicing the pattern, looking at the word in the context of a sentence, and applying the pattern to our original writing.

Cell phones and smart watches need to be turned off and left in backpacks during the school day. If you need to be in contact with your 5th grader during school hours, please email their classroom teacher or call the office.

Each 5th grader has a planner that will be filled out each day. Planners should be checked at home for homework assignments, upcoming tests, and other important information. Please sign your child's planner each night.

Double check that your child is bringing a water bottle to school with them every day. There is a bottle filling station close to our classrooms.
