Alternate Assessment Chat and Connect Series
What: MTAS/Alternate MCA test administrators and special education staff are invited to meet with MDE alternate assessment specialists to give feedback, ask questions and connect with other special education staff from across the state.
Why: Discuss the newly revised Eligibility Requirements and Decision-Making Tool for Minnesota Alternate Assessments and show the soon-to-be released Science Alternate MCA Online Demo, share your feedback, and have your questions answered.
When: Series will continue monthly, meeting the third Tuesday of each month. The Alternate Assessment Chat and Connect dates for this year are Dec. 17, Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, April 15, and May 20 at 4 p.m. Register once for the entire series of monthly meetings.

Additionally, there will not be a set of response cards delivered for every Alternative MCA Science test. Please work with your testing coordinator to ensure that test administrators have access to response cards as needed. This test can be delivered on paper, in person or hybrid.

All staff administering FastBridge assessments must successfully complete the certification within the training modules for every assessment they will be administering each year.
If a FastBridge assessment comprises multiple subtests (e.g., earlyReading and earlyMath), staff must complete the certification for each subtest that they will administer.

Intervention Spotlight: Predictable Routines and Schedules
Research shows that predictable routines and schedules significantly benefit students by enhancing their emotional, social, and cognitive development. They create a predictable environment, reducing anxiety and helping students feel secure. Visual schedules, which use pictures or symbols to outline daily activities, make transitions smoother and foster independence by allowing students to follow along without constant verbal instructions. These tools also enhance focus and organization, contributing to a more inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere. By providing clear expectations, visual schedules help students stay engaged and participate more effectively in their learning activities.

MPS Academy
MPS Academy
MPS Academy is a teacher preparation program approved by PELSB and available to all MPS employees. Participants will:
Work as a teacher at an elementary school during the school year.
Attend classes on Fridays during summer school, and in the evenings and weekends during the year.
Earn a teacher’s salary while in the program.
Pay no tuition fees.
Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
Benefits:
Earn a Tier 3 teaching license in Special Education upon completion.
Priority given to ESPs and teachers with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 license.
