Interpreter services are essential supports for many of our students and families. To ensure these valuable services are accurately logged and reimbursed, we need your help documenting them correctly.
While ECSE teams have already received this guidance, we now need all case managers districtwide to assist in this effort.
When interpreter services are documented in a studentβs IEP or IFSP, it allows our interpreters to log their time appropriately and ensures those services are eligible for 3rd party reimbursement. This supports both compliance and the sustainability of these critical services.
1. Document Interpreter Services in the IEP
If a student benefits from interpreter support (during interventions, IEP meetings, or evaluations), ensure this is clearly stated in their IEP.
This allows interpreters to record services accurately and helps the district claim reimbursement.
2. Update IFSPs (Birthβ3 Staff)
Before summer, please review and amend IFSPs to include interpreter services where appropriate.
3. Update IEPs (Ages 3β5, Part B)
If you are planning an IEP amendment soon, be sure to add interpreter services as needed.
Ensure these services are discussed and documented during the Annual IEP meeting when applicable.
Weβve attached helpful resources to guide you:
PDF Instructions: How to log interpreter services
Sample PWN Language: Use this when updating IEPs or IFSPs
These steps are aligned with guidance from M & C and General Counsel.
By ensuring interpreter services are accurately documented, you are helping families, supporting our interpreters, and strengthening our systems.
