This research paper examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education system, specifically focusing on the characteristics of online teachers and their influence on student engagement and success. The study collected data from 159 first-year college students enrolled in Math, English, and Science subjects at Marikina Polytechnic College. A survey questionnaire was used to gather information on students' demographics, their level of agreement on online teachers' characteristics, and the adjectives they used to describe their online teachers. The data was analyzed using statistical procedures such as t-tests and ANOVA. The findings indicate that there is no significant difference in online teachers' characteristics and the number of adjectives used to describe them based on subjects and gender. However, there is a significant difference in the number of adjectives describing online English teachers between male and female students. The study concludes that teachers play a crucial role in online education and recommends providing them with the necessary skills and resources to effectively engage students in distance learning.
