My understanding of geology really paid off on exhibition night. I was in charge of explaining the rock layers, and the Great Unconformity. The Great Unconformity is when two rock layers are stacked on top of one another, but the layer on top erodes away, and is replaced by a new one. So, when geologists and archaeologists look at the rocks, they see the significant time difference, and are unable to tell us what kind of rock was originally there. I am very proud of how our script and rock strata model turned out. I learned that everyone in the group needs to work together to finish the project (And getting a good grade, I might add!). Making the geology part was really fun. I learned all about the arctic region, and got to do arts and crafts too. This was a very great exhibition. 

In this exhibition we learned all about the planets of the solar system. Each group was assigned a planet, and once there were no more planets, two groups studied other phenomena from space. These two groups studied either eclipses, or gravity. I myself was not one of these groups: I had been assigned a planet. The planet my group was assigned was Venus. There were three learning targets, and they are I can Develop a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to explain lunar phases, eclipses, and seasons. I can also Use a model to describe how gravity influences the motion of objects in galaxies and the solar system. Finally, I can Analyze data to determine the size and scale properties of objects in the solar system. My overall grade for this exhibition is an exceeds, which I am very proud of. 

My project that I decided to do was plastic pollution. I had to understand what plastic pollution was to start on my action plan. For my action plan, I wrote a letter to the local newspaper to raise awareness about this problem. I had a tough time getting the editors to take me seriously. I wrote email after email until I finally got them to pay attention to me, and my letter got in the paper for the public to see. I think I put a lot of effort into this because I had to complete my research, write a persuasive email to the editors to get my letter in, and then refine my letter a lot for it to finally be good enough to put in the paper. I envision the people of durango to see my article and donate to some of the companies mentioned that are dedicated to solving plastic pollution, and if they do donate, that money can be used to buy equipment for them to clean up the ocean.
