Reading i-Ready Beginning of Year Reflection
This year in reading i-Ready, I got an overall score of early 8th grade, 639. On this test I really feel like I improved my understanding of a lot of things, and I now know how to comprehend more and bigger words using their prefixes and suffixes, ect. On reading I felt that I could really stay focusd on the work and I think I did a great job. I took this test on the first week of 8th grade, thinking I would get a mid or end of 7th grade, but I took my time and answers to the best of my ability, and overall ended with early 8th. I scored in the 77th percentile, meaning I scored higher than most of the students in my class. I am really proud of my self, that I was able to push myself even at the start of the school year. My goal for the mid-year i-Ready is to keep pushing myself to do the best I can, and also apply that in all of my classes, quizzes, and tests.
Just Mercy
Our first Humanities exhibition focused on the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, which taught us about the deep flaws and unfairness in our legal system. We studied the true story of Walter McMillian and learned how things like poverty and race can lead to people being wrongly convicted. We created a readers log where we kept track of all of our notes from the book. We did one after every chapter, filling out a summary, quote, and description of your quote. I got a meets on this assignment. And we also did two Socratic Seminars where we discused the book with the class and answerd questions from the text.

Socratic Seminar Reflection #1
This seminar was all about the book Just mercy and injustices in it. It was also about modern racial and bias problems and what comes with that. The grade I got for the paper portion of this project was an Exceeds because I worked really hard and exceeded the standards. For the oral grade I got a Meets because I talked about multiple key point, transitions to questions 2, and sited evidence from the book.
We also did our second Socratic Seminar and talked about the rest of the book!
TED Talk Exhibition Reflection
TED Talk Exhibition Reflection
I learned so much from the TED Talk Exhibition. Things like public speaking, which has been a little bit difficult in the past. We also worked on skills like writing papers and scripts, critical thinking and problem solving, leadership development, and so much more. I feel like I did great on this project and my grades prove that. On the oral presentation I got a Meets, which I am very proud of because I didn't feel the most confident. I also got a Meets for my TED Talk Slides, and a Meets for my research. Overall, I loved this project and I think it went very well!
Mock Trial Reflection
In this project we studied things like Direct Examinations, Cross Examination, Opening Statements, Closing Statements, and much more about Mock Trials. I grew in this project because I had to speak with confidence and dominance to be able to make a powerful statement. I also learned that in trials you have to know what you did and what the whole story is. You have to be able to back up your case and be confident in it. One thing I learned about myself as an individual is that maybe I could be a lawyer when I am older. I never really knew what it meant to be an attorney but I think it would be a really great profession when I am older. In the rubric I gave myself an exceeds for the Group Work and an exceeds for the Written Aspect and on the Oral Presentation I gave myself a meets. A goal I would like to set for myself is to not get lazy on my work and to do it to the best of my ability and to continue to help my groups with what they need. Overall, this was a really fun exhibition for me and I really enjoyed all of the work that I have accomplished in doing my first Mock Trial.

And Business Plan
In this project I learned how to design a business based on UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Below Water, focusing on saving the oceans and underwater species. I learned things like budgets, and financing and learned how to rent spaces for our business and learned how to estimate a loan and your monthly income and how much you have to pay a month. In the final project I applied these concepts because I had to present how the business would run and what our loan was and why we needed it. As a student I grew a lot in this project because I learned what it took to start a business from scratch like I hope to in the future. As an individual I grew in this project because I learned that I really want to help shape the future of our oceans for generations to come. Based on this project and my overall understanding of the concepts I would give myself a meets because I also felt that I presented to the best of my ability. Goals I could set for myself are to refine my work for typos and spelling errors because I had some extra time at the end of the project. I could also practice more before my presentation to be prepared and not look at my slides at all.
