Weekly Updates for September, 16th 2019

Hello families,

Our team is settling into classroom routines very well! I am very much looking forward to an excellent year of learning with your students and partnership with you as families.

This week, we will have our Apex fun run on Friday from 1:50-2:40 in the afternoon. Students took home a pledge kit last week on Tuesday. Please use the code on that to log into apex and choose their free t-shirt size so that they are ready to run on Friday! If you are raising money for Valentine Hills, please remember that a pledge in any amount helps our school greatly! You do not need to pledge a dollar amount per lap- you can choose to pledge any dollar amount either in cash or online. Pledges are due by Friday morning.

In reading, we are continuing to work on writing responses to our reading, with a focus on grounding our thinking in the text and learning to think analytically as a reader. In writing we are continuing to develop our summer narratives, and are discussing how to use dialogue to develop the story.

We are continuing our unit studies work in U.S. government with a focus on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Midweek, students will begin a collaborative group project that will conclude in a presentation of their topic to the class.
