Candidate Recruitment and Support

Element 3

Describe how candidates requiring assistance will be identified and receive guidance and support. Provide any supporting documentation.

Several mechanisms are in place to identify AC who require assistance. Mentors assist and support candidates weekly as identified in the collaboration log. The log details:

  1. AC concerns

  2. Leadership needs

  3. AC progress towards meeting AILP goals

  4. Reflection on CPSELS

  5. Just in time support

The AILP is a mechanism for identifying the ACs progress and needs by:

  1. Mentor includes a narrative on the AILP which identifies the ACs progress (AILP Mentor Narrative)

  2. During the mid-year submission, the program reads and comments on each AILP to ensure adequate progress or to determine if additional assistance is needed.

  3. Benchmark assessment essay used by mentors to determine an AC’s progress at the end of year one. Mentors rate AC on the CPSELS, leadership characteristics.

Struggling candidates receive additional support as identified in the collaboration log:

  • Additional mentoring time beyond the required an hour a week of support

  • Mentoring includes just in time support to quickly guide and direct an AC as needed

  • Mentors are encouraged to network on behalf of the AC to connect the AC to available resources

Additional support is also available by:

  • Optional hands-on meetings are available late fall and early spring to support candidate needs.

  • A Request for an Extension is available in the handbook.

  • The Induction program can intervene with tier two support
