Lecture 7: GLOBAL AND NATIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON PRINCIPLES OF HERITAGE SITES CONSERVATION (60 MINUTES)

This lecture will focus on the principles of heritage site conservation from both global and national perspectives, exploring the foundational concepts and practices that guide effective heritage preservation. It will examine international conservation principles, including the burra charter, Nara Document on Authenticity, and other UNESCO guidelines, highlighting the global standards for preserving the integrity and authenticity of cultural heritage.
Lecture 8: VALUE-BASED PROTECTION APPROACH (60 MINUTES)

This lecture will introduce participants to Bhutan’s approach of conservation, emphasizing the country’s unique context and values in protecting heritage sites. It will introduce the value-based protection approach, which prioritizes the preservation of the cultural, historical, and social significance of heritage sites. Participants will learn about the importance of considering the cultural heritage value (CHV) of sites in conservation practices, ensuring that the intrinsic values associated with the site are maintained alongside physical preservation.
By the end of the session, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of both the global principles and Bhutan’s specific strategies for heritage site conservation, focusing on the importance of value-based protection in sustainable heritage management.
