Lecture 4: GLOBAL FRAMEWORK FOR HERITAGE PROTECTION (40 MINUTES)

This lecture will introduce participants to the global framework for heritage protection, examining the roles of international organizations and conventions such as UNESCO's World Heritage Convention, The Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites), and other global initiatives. Additionally, it will provide an overview of the legal instruments, policies, and strategies that govern the protection and management of heritage sites worldwide.
Lecture 5: FRAMEWORK OF HERITAGE SITES PROTECTION IN BHUTAN (60 MINUTES)

This lecture will explore the framework for heritage site protection in Bhutan, focusing on the history, roles, and responsibilities of various entities involved in conservation efforts. It will cover the historical development of heritage protection in Bhutan, highlighting key milestones and evolving policies. The session will delve into the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Culture and Dzongkhag Development (DCDD) and other divisions responsible for heritage conservation. It will also explore the involvement of critical stakeholders, including the monk body, local communities, and dzongkhags, in preserving cultural heritage.
Additionally, the lecture will introduce participants to the Cultural Heritage Bill of Bhutan, providing an understanding of the legal framework for heritage protection. The registration and designation system for cultural heritage sites will be discussed, along with the protection works involved in heritage conservation.
Lecture 6: PROTECTION WORKS (60 MINUTES)
