Artistic Gymnastics

Artistic Gymnastics is a sport that develops each gymnast’s physical abilities in balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination and endurance. In SCGS, gymnastics typically involves exercises on bars, beam, floor,  vaulting horse and trampoline. Our goal is to provide a positive environment where our gymnasts can have a taste of  success and lay the foundation for success in life. Through discipline, pure hard work, sacrifice and application of fundamentals, with lots of grit in life, the team will grow in their skill competency and execution of skills. Good attitude and strong commitment are keys to our success.

Besides training for the National School Games, the gymnasts also participate in National Championships and Singapore Open organised by Singapore Gymnastics for learning, exposure and competition experience. Our students not only compete and train to hone their skills and techniques during CCA training, they are also taught to perform self and peer assessment of their routines, which help them to give feedback to one another and understand gymnastics judging principles for better performance in subsequent routine execution.

The CCA is not just about training and competition but they also contribute to the society through their involvement in Values-in-Action and have participated in events such as the Food from the Heart.

2023 CCA Experience

2023 was definitely a very enlightening year for the SCGS gymnasts. As the year unfolded, both the ‘C’ Division and ‘B’ Division teams strived hard as the daunting yet exciting competitions drew closer. Though we were worried, it only drove us to work harder, and provide more support for each other.

Through sheer endurance and determination, our gymnasts attained remarkable results in the three competitions we took part in, namely National Championships, National School Games(NSG) and Singapore Open. In the NSG, our ‘B’ Division trampoline as well as artistic teams placed 2nd, with Victoria Wong (4DY) coming in as individual champion for the trampoline event. Moreover, our ‘C’ Division team achieved 2nd place. Individually, Ayra Daneen Binte Azaniza (2CO) and Charlotte Phoon (1DG) placed 4th and 5th all around respectively.

Besides training for competitions, our team also allocated training time for our school’s annual National Day performance, where our team choreographed a routine to the song Levitating by Dua Lipa. Despite an initial struggle to come out with new moves due to the prolonged lack of performance opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic, our gymnasts managed to work together to create a breathtaking performance, exhibiting strong teamwork and creativity.

Every year, our gymnastics team gets involved in different Values-In-Action programmes where we learn many soft skills which are helpful in shaping the team for the better. In 2023, our team volunteered at Ang Mo Kio-Thye Hua Kwan Hospital where we helped and guided the elderly in their Therapy & Arts Day. Learning to adapt to the sudden changes and challenges when helping the elderly,\ would also help us to develop our ability to deal with challenges during training.

Our coaches and teachers have played an extremely important role in helping our gymnastics team attain such outstanding results and achievements in 2023 and thus we would like to express our sincere gratitude to them for their never-ending encouragement and enthusiasm in leading the SCGS gym team.
