Handbell Ensemble

The SCGS Handbell Ensemble is a close-knit family sharing a common interest - the love for handbells and a strong passion for music. The Ringers have always been striving for excellence — especially through their participation in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation that is held biennally. Each time as they learn new repertoire, not only do students learn a wide range of ringing techniques and how they are applied in different musical contexts, they also learn the importance of playing together as an ensemble and how each ringer plays a crucial role towards the overall sound production. Through their experiences in Handbell Ensemble, students will learn the values of teamwork, commitment and resilience.

The Ringers also believe in serving the community. From school and public performances, to bringing joy to nursing homes, they have served the community whenever opportunities arise. The SCGS Handbell Ensemble hopes to continue to spread warmth, joy and create wonderful memories for its audiences through the harmonious and beautiful sounds of handbells and chimes.

2025 CCA Experience

The SCGS Handbell Ensemble (SCHB) had an exciting and eventful 2025. We kick-started the year with a lively performance at the Secondary 1 Orientation, presenting crowd favourites like One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble”.

In March, SCHB participated in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation, performing two pieces, “Psalm of Peace” and “Sleigh Ride”. Our dedication and commitment paid off, and we were honoured to receive the Certificate of Distinction.

SCHB also took part in the SC Performing Arts Festival, Auralis: Beyond the Stars. Our repertoire included “Galaxy Express 999”, “La Vie en Rose”, and our SYF pieces, creating a harmonious blend of melodies for a captivating showcase. In addition, our new ringers impressed the audience with their solo performance, “Joy and Elation”!

After a heartfelt farewell to our Secondary 4 seniors, SCHB performed on Teachers’ Day with renditions of “Vuelie” and “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen. The audience sang along enthusiastically, bringing joy and bright smiles to the teachers’ faces.

Last but not least, SCHB had the opportunity to collaborate with the Seibunsha Ringers from Japan. This exchange allowed us to foster international friendships and sharpen our skills through the sharing of techniques and experiences.

We are deeply grateful to our conductors and teachers-in-charge for their unwavering support, guidance, and commitment throughout the year. With their encouragement and our ringers’ efforts, may SCHB reach even greater heights in 2026!
