Handbell Ensemble

The SCGS Handbell Ensemble is a close-knit family sharing a common interest - the love for handbells and a strong passion for music. The Ringers have always been striving for excellence — especially through their participation in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation that is held biennally. Each time as they learn new repertoire, not only do students learn a wide range of ringing techniques and how they are applied in different musical contexts, they also learn the importance of playing together as an ensemble and how each ringer plays a crucial role towards the overall sound production. Through their experiences in Handbell Ensemble, students will learn the values of teamwork, commitment and resilience.

The Ringers also believe in serving the community. From school and public performances, to bringing joy to nursing homes, they have served the community whenever opportunities arise. The SCGS Handbell Ensemble hopes to continue to spread warmth, joy and create wonderful memories for its audiences through the harmonious and beautiful sounds of handbells and chimes.

The Handbell Ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1515-1815.

(Friday rehearsals only during concert preparation)

2023 CCA Experience

It was a fruitful year for SCGS Handbell Ensemble (SCHB) as we kicked off 2023 with a vibrant performance at the Secondary 1 Orientation with renditions of popular songs: "What Makes You Beautiful" and "YMCA", both arranged by our Secondary 4 member, Wong Xin Yi.

After months of dedicated practice, SCHB was proud to attain the Certificate of Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation with Capriccio and A Bugler's Holiday!

SCHB also performed in the SC Performing Arts Festival: Alive, showcasing a series of songs such as Totoro, I See The Light and Under the Sea. SCHB had the opportunity to collaborate with SC String Ensemble and SC Band for a medley from The Greatest Showman, also arranged by Wong Xin Yi.

For Teachers’ Day Celebrations, SCHB collaborated with SC String Ensemble yet again for a Phantom of the Opera medley, showcasing a blend of beautiful melodies and harmonies, featuring nostalgic tunes from the renowned musical.

Another highlight of the year was our participation in An Extra•Ordinary Celebration 2023: A Kaleidoscope of Love and Hope, a concert where more than 600 performers from special education and mainstream schools collaborated in song and dance. Attended by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, SCHB performed an item together with the students from Cerebral Palsy Alliance School, Bedok Green Sec and Yuying Sec.

SCHB concluded the year with a magical Open House performance. We presented three enchanting songs from Studio Ghibli and Disney. The showcase at the foyer garnered bright smiles from the audience, marking an enchanting conclusion of 2023 for SCHB ringers.
