Dance

Dedication, commitment and resilience are qualities developed in every member of the Dance Group. Each member is critical and no one dancer is more important than another.

In Dance, we develop not just the skills and techniques of the student but her character as well. Whether through competitions, performances, workshops and exchanges etc, Dance nurtures our students a strong passion for the art form, committed to continually improve themselves in skill and character. We emphasise the importance of teamwork, working together and lifting each other to perform their best.

Aside from the Biennial SYF,  the Dance CCA holds sold-out Dance concerts in collaboration with the Dance CCA from SCGS Primary. There is a strong sense of collaboration, community and pride as they work together to put up the concert.

2023 CCA Experience

2023 has been an exciting year for SC Dance, kick-started with weekend performances at Great World City for Lunar New Year. In addition to that, with COVID-19 restrictions lifted, the dancers held their first overnight dance camp in two years, which was a great opportunity for bonding and integrating new members into the CCA.

Through vigorous training, SC Dance is proud to announce that the students were awarded a distinction for both the International and the Chinese Dance categories for the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation. The Dance group also performed at the Esplanade event ‘In Youthful Company’ with their Primary School counterparts.

The dancers had multiple opportunities to perform for the school community as well, during Honours’ Day, the SC Arts Festival and National Day. With their training in various genres of dance, the students also self-choreographed a special item for Teachers’ Day.

This year, the dancers had the privilege of taking classes conducted by the alumni, attending a ballet masterclass by Miss Chua Bi Ru, former Soloist with the Singapore Ballet, and having contemporary dance lessons with Miss Elizabeth Ortega and Miss Isabel Chay.

With renewed enthusiasm along with new ideas and directives implemented by the current leadership, SC Dance looks forward to celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.
