Implement when
You need a form of redirection from misbehavior, talking, off task behaviors, etc
A student is not following classroom/school procedures
A student does something good or correct and you want to praise him/her
Strategies:
Meet student privately to identify how what signs to use for different contexts and what the signs mean (e.g. refocus, eyes on Teacher, can you come and help me, met your target etc)
Use cues like smiles, thumbs up to praise student for correct behaviors, participation, volunteering or to reassure them and encourage them
Use simple cues like shaking head “no”, raising eyebrows, giving a “one minute” finger signal, to redirect students, give directives
