Prepare a set of 5 flashcards with sight words (from word list or preselected by teacher)
Set learning objectives. E.g. student is able to read all sight words correctly 3 times in a row.
Teacher speech/steps:
Shows each flashcard to the student for him/her to read
The student needs to responds correctly within 3 seconds
If student is correct, say "Yes, the word is [word].”
If student is incorrectly, say "No, the word is [word]. Say [word].”
If student is correct, move on to the next word
If student is incorrect or takes longer than 3 seconds, say "The word is [word]. Say [word].”
Repeat this till student gets to word correct
When student has read all the words, shuffle flashcards and repeat the above
Stop the session when student is able to read the set correctly 3 times in a row
When student is able to do this for 3 sessions in a row, move on to prepare the next set of cards him/her to read
Revisit each set of 5 words periodically to enable student to attain mastery of the words
Alternative approach for word read wrongly:
If student incorrect or takes longer than 3 seconds, say "The word is [word]. Say [word].”
If student is correct, place the flashcard back into the set
Student is to read the set of words correctly 3 times correctly (without error)
Move on to the next set
