Flame of Hope
On June 4, our school community had the honor of welcoming the Richmond Police Department as they carried the Flame of Hope from Richmond's historic Round Church to School Street as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Vermont. Students and staff gathered to cheer on the runners and celebrate the spirit of inclusion, determination, and community. The Flame of Hope symbolizes courage and opportunity for athletes with intellectual disabilities, and this special event helped raise awareness for the more than 2,900 athletes supported by Special Olympics Vermont. We are grateful to the Richmond Police Department for inspiring our students and helping our school take part in this meaningful tradition.
What's New
Thursday, June 4th, was our 11th annual 4th grade track meet, where all 4th graders from around the district meet at the high school to compete in a variety of track and field events. It was a beautiful day filled with laughs, smiles, and comradery. Click the link below to see a highlight video!
MMUUSD 4th Grade Biliteracy Ceremony
4th grade students and families from all over the district who have been participating in the Spanish Immersion program came together Thursday evening to celebrate and receive their certificate of Biliteracy. As the only Spanish Immersion program in Vermont, we continue to build something special. Our students have not only learned to read, write, and speak in two languages, they have learned to listen with empathy, think with flexibility, and engage with the world in a broader, more inclusive way.
Creating Art Portfolios
In K-3 Art class, students have been wrapping up the year with portfolio making! Art portfolios are a special place for students to store their amazing artwork, so each student came up with a personal design for their portfolio. Very soon students will be getting all their artwork from the year back so they can pack up their portfolio to take home. It is an amazing time for students to reflect on and celebrate their artistic growth throughout the year and they are so excited to take their masterpieces home!
Community Sailing Center Field Trip
Students in the 3rd & 3/4 classes visited the Community Sailing Center this week for the conclusion of their “Floating Classrooms” program. Students had the opportunity to sail on Lake Champlain and learn about the Lake Champlain watershed, its pollutants and what we can all do to protect and preserve the watershed…even from our homes in Richmond!
Spanish Immersion Exploring Plants
Our Spanish Immersion students in grades K & 1 have been exploring the fascinating world of plants! Students learned about the parts of a plant, what plants need to grow, and the important role plants play in our environment. As they built their science knowledge, they also strengthened their Spanish language skills by discussing plant life cycles and using academic vocabulary in meaningful ways.
¡Las plantas necesitan agua, luz del sol y tierra para crecer!
Pre-k Dream Cupcake Celebration

Community News & Events
Track is Back!
The Mt. Mansfield Summer Track Program returns for our 32nd year. We are a program open to all athletes from beginners to those looking to specialize in certain events. Athletes will practice and compete based on age groups from 5-6 years old up to the 13-15 age group. It is a great way for younger kids to learn a new sport and helps the middle school athletes prepare for high school. Practices are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 at the MMU track. The program starts on Wednesday, June 17th and wraps up on Wednesday, July 15. We have 2-3 meets with other teams from Chittenden County and there is the option of competing at the Vermont Recreation and Parks state meet at the end of the season. Registration is $40 for the first child in a family, $30 for the second, and $20 for each additional child and includes a team t-shirt. The program is run by Mt. Mansfield Track Coach Bill Eschholz and members of the 2025 MMU Track Team. For additional information or to request a registration form please email Bill Eschholz at MMSTXC@gmail.com.

Food Service
For the 2025-2026 school year, school meals will continue to be free. Even though there is no charge for snack and lunch, we encourage you to fill out this application for free and reduced-price school meals. If many families fill out and return this form, we will get more money from the federal government for free school meals now and in the future. We will also get more money for other school programs. Filling out this form also helps our community provide free summer meals to all kids, and free meals to kids in childcare. HERE is additional information outlining food service, free and reduced lunch, and common questions asked.
