October 5th, 2025
Our annual Open House was a wonderful evening of connection and celebration! Families were invited to visit the elementary school and tour classrooms, guided proudly by their children. Students loved showing their families the work they’ve been doing, their favorite learning spaces, and special projects. It was a joyful opportunity for parents and guardians to see the school through their child’s eyes and for our community to come together in support of learning.
What's New
The Case of the Missing Gingerbread Cookies
You are not going to believe this! The Kindergarteners made gingerbread cookies on Friday morning. When we went back to get them in the afternoon, they were missing! We knew they must have run away, just like in the stories we read. We searched all over the school. Finally, we went to search the playground. We were so surprised and happy to find that Mr. Rector had chased our cookies down and captured them in a net. All three kindergarten classes enjoyed their tasty cookies. Thank you, Chef Danielle, for making the dough for us. Thank you, Mr. Rector, for finding our cookies. A big thank you to all the staff and students in the upper grades who helped us find clues and encouraged us to keep searching.
Fourth Grade Fun!!
Poetry Publishing Party
After building their skills in writer's craft, students worked hard to create deliciously descriptive poems. Following their creative work with words, students shared their amazing poems with one another during our PUBLISHING PARTY!!! These pictures of the poetry publishing party are positively precious!!!
Sometimes reading with friends on a blanket on a sunny Friday is all you need...
The 4th graders are making posters with famous quotes about creativity and innovation in art. After an amazing conversation about what each quote means, they chose the one that most resonated with them and learned some graphic design basics before beginning their pieces. The posters will be hung around the school to inspire all who walk the halls.
Sailing Fun for 3/4 Spanish Immersion
Students in 3/4 Spanish Immersion had the exciting opportunity to visit the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center in Burlington for a “Floating Classroom” program. During this hands-on learning experience, students sailed on Lake Champlain while exploring important topics such as invasive and native species, water quality, food webs, biodiversity, adaptations, and ecosystems. This year-long partnership will connect directly to our science units, allowing students to deepen their understanding of these concepts through real-world applications.
VOLUNTEERING
**If you think you might VOLUNTEER at any point during the school year, please be sure to fill out the Volunteer Form now.**
It is much easier to fill it out now so you can be cleared to volunteer at any point during the school year.
RES PTO
The RES PTO needs YOU!
The RES PTO is hosting its annual Big Truck Day celebration on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00am - 2:00pm at RES and we need your help.
If you or someone you know has a vehicle that you think the kids would enjoy checking out, please reach out to Jennifer Snow at jenshawsnow@gmail.com for more information. The more vehicles, the more fun! Don’t be shy about suggesting something new!
Along with vehicles, there will be Home Depot art kits available to assemble at RES or to take home with you. There’s a rocket station hosted by Jeni and Kyle Brooks. For a small fee, they’ll set you up with a rocket and help you launch it behind RES. There will be snacks and a bounce house as well.
While we won't be charging for this event, the suggested donation for admission is $5 per person.
If you want to volunteer to bring snacks or help run Big Truck Day, please follow the link:

Revised March 2024
Dear RES Families,
I am reaching out to let you know that I have been hearing about an increase in head lice in our student population. This unfortunately is not uncommon this time of the year. Please make sure to perform periodic head lice checks on your child and treat immediately if they are discovered. I am attaching a link that outlines steps to take if you do find any head lice:

Food Service
For the 2025-2026 school year, school meals will continue to be free. Even though there is no charge for snack and lunch, we encourage you to fill out this application for free and reduced-price school meals. If many families fill out and return this form, we will get more money from the federal government for free school meals now and in the future. We will also get more money for other school programs. Filling out this form also helps our community provide free summer meals to all kids, and free meals to kids in childcare. HERE is additional information outlining food service, free and reduced lunch, and common questions asked.
