A contour map is great tool for understanding the landscape of an area. It presents a layout of where the steep, flat, and intermediate slopes occur.
The slope map above shows the flat (light colors) and steep (dark colors) parts of the area.
The above map illustrates the soil types in the region. As indicated by the soil map legend, the Hazelwood site is identified as urban land.
The soil data used in the legend and the map comes from the USGS Web Soil Survey.
The above map shows the educational facilities located around
the site as well as their districts.
This infographic gives information about housing, economy, schools, and other information pertaining to this area.
This image displays the walking and biking routes. It also shows how often they are used with the pink color being heavy usage while the blue has less use.
The above collection of images are mostly from the site. There are a few historical images that are included as well. Also, mixed in are words and phrases that best describe the site and its past uses.
My concept is to carry the surrounding vegetation into the area creating an essential greenspace that will include a mix of uses right in the heart of Pittsburgh.
