Spring 2 - Data and Handling
Spring 2 - Data and Handling
On our first week back at Mission Grove, we attended an E-safety workshop. We watched a video about The Internet Owl and how to be kind to one another online.
We watched a video and paused it to answer questions about Toby Tiger. We then spoke to our partners about how Toby Tiger is feeling and what zone he may be in.
Lesson 1: Collecting Data
During this lesson, began to understand the importance of organising data effectively for counting and comparing. We then created own tally charts to organise data and represent the tally count as a total.
We've learnt all about tally charts in our maths which helped us with our computing!
STEM week:
SCIENCE
DT
During STEM week, we looked at our fantastic fingerprints using cocoa powder, pencils, and flour. Using all of our fingers, we dipped our fingers in each substance and placed it on cello tape which mysteriously showed our finger prints! We then identified the different patterns we could find.
Flour!
Using our finger print clues, we investigated which patterns were created and labelled them on our sheet.
DT Project:
For our DT project we identified, designed and created our very own hand bags! There were three items our bags needed to hold firmly which were a ruler, a pencil and scissors... Do you think we passed the test?
After creating our bags we evaluated them, inspecting each part carefully.
Lots of concentration here!
Team work makes the dream work!
Ready...Set... SEW!
Valentina used green material, white thread, a fancy button and plenty of decorative accessories to make her bag visually appealing!
Valentina's bag held all three items!
Saabir used an egg shell material, with pink thread to finish off. He specifically didn't use decorative accessories as he felt the bag was already perfect!
Saabir's bag held all three items!
Lesson 2: Entering Data
During this lesson, we created pictograms manually and then began creating them using a computer with our partners.
"I really enjoyed working with my partner to make the pictogram".
"We chose lots of different animals and colours."
Lesson 3: Collecting pictograms
During this lesson we thought about the importance of effective data collection. We then considered the benefits of different data collection methods and why, for example, we would use a pictogram to display the data collected.
