The Millbury Girls Soccer team has done a complete U-turn since last year. After a 2-15-1 record, they have now turned it around and are 5-4-3 as they try to make a playoff push. They play 4 games this week and hope to win all 4, with Wednesday being Senior Night. If they win all 4, their chances of making the playoffs increase significantly. Led by captains Reilly Carron, Claire Bertrand, and Maddie Galicia, these three have been leading the way for the girls all season. I spoke with Reilly about this year's Senior Night, and she says it's big because it's the first time in years that we have a chance to make the playoffs.
With no juniors on the team, they have had a lot of help from the younger grades. First-time goalie Natalie Smalls, who has had 5 shutouts, plus other young players such as Erin Day (D) and Michaela Fortunato (F), have filled into the roles this season. The future looks bright for the Woolies with young stars filling the roles for the upperclassmen. As the season goes on, let’s see if they make that U-turn and make that playoff push.
