This list is the ultimate roundup of the most overrated things at MHS from the habits people hype up for no reason to the phrases everyone repeats every single day. We’re calling out the daily routines, hallway trends, and random school moments that just do not live up to the hype. Before anyone gets offended: it’s all in good fun, so let’s get straight into it.
Wearing PJ’s to school every single day.
Look, we all love being comfortable, but rolled-out-of-bed chic has reached its limit. There’s a huge difference between throwing on sweatpants on a freezing rainy Tuesday and wearing full-on fleece pajama pants with slippers for five days straight. At a certain point, it’s not even cozy anymore. It just looks like you’ve completely given up before Homeroom even starts.
Having 5 day school week
Who decided five days on and two days off was a fair ratio? By Wednesday afternoon, everyone has 10% battery life, and Sunday evening is just spent dreading the whole cycle starting over again. A four-day school week needs to happen immediately.
The fire alarm keep going off at random times
The ear-piercing screech goes off out of nowhere, completely shattering your eardrums while everyone pushes and shoves down the hallway to get outside as fast as possible. Getting to miss ten minutes of class sounds great in theory. Until you’re standing outside in freezing temperatures without a jacket because someone burnt a bagel in the home ec room. It’s never during a test you actually want to skip, either.
4. Group Projects
Every group project ever assigned boils down to one person doing 90% of the work, two people decorating the Google Slides template, and one person who disappears entirely until presentation day. Especially overrated when you can’t pick your group and you're stuck with the people that don’t do any of the work at all or are never there.
5. Taking notes while watching the movie
The teacher announces, "We're watching a movie today!" and the room goes wild until they hand out a two-page worksheet with 30 specific questions. You can't even enjoy the film because you're frantically trying to catch the exact moment a character says a specific line and you freak out because you missed one thing from the movie. I know we are all just trying to watch a movie in joy, a free period from all of our other stress we have in life.
6. Halfway Traffic jams and Catwalk
Trying to get to class on time shouldn't feel like navigating an obstacle course. The absolute worst spot is the catwalk, where nobody seems to understand how walking on the right side works. You either get stuck behind a giant group of friends standing side-by-side to form a human wall, or you’re trapped behind people walking in slow motion like they have nowhere to be. If you're trying to get past them without being late, good luck. Overall people need to learn how to walk in the hallway and the catwalk the right way.
7. The Temperature inside the building
There is zero consistency anywhere in this school. You can walk out of one classroom where you’re practically sweating to death and fighting for your life, only to step directly into the next room that feels like a walk-in freezer for no apparent reason. Layering isn't even a fashion choice at MHS. It's a full on survival mechanism just to get through the day without getting heat stroke or hypothermia.
8.Using Chromebooks
School-issued Chromebooks are hyped up as essential learning tech, but in reality, they’re basically clunky, glorified paperweights that are constantly on the verge of falling apart. Half the keys are usually sticky or completely missing, the trackpad only works when it feels like it, and the processor is so ridiculously slow that opening a single Google Doc causes the whole system to freeze up like it's trying to process rocket science. To make matters worse, the battery life is a complete gamble. You can unhook it from the charger at a solid 100% at the start of first period, only to watch it inexplicably drop to 12% twenty minutes into class, leaving you desperately hunting for the one working wall outlet in the back of the room before your unsaved assignment vanishes into the void.
9.”overnight” Homework Assignments
Teachers assign a 3-page essay due at 11:59 PM like you don't have four other classes, practice, and a life outside of school. Also wouldn’t you want to make yourself half to do less grading that you can spend time with your own kids or partner.
10.The Seniors winning The Winter Carnival every single year.
The tradition of the senior class winning the Winter Carnival every single year has completely lost its charm, morphing from a fun high school rite of passage into a predictable, staged guarantee. When the outcome is practically written into the schedule before the events even begin, it strips away any genuine excitement, competitive spirit, and school spirit for everyone else involved. Underclassmen spend weeks pouring real effort into lip syncs , spirit days, events only to watch the judges inevitably hand it to the seniors every single year.
11. Calling everything “Rizz or Unspoken rizz”
Calling everything "rizz" or "unspoken rizz" has officially taken a term that was once genuinely funny and drained all the humor out of it. What started as a clever shorthand for actual charisma has been stretched so thin that standard, baseline human behavior gets treated like a masterclass in flirting. Making eye contact, saying "excuse me" in the hallway, or holding a door open for two seconds isn't "unspoken rizz". It's just basic manners. The label turns every single interaction into a micro-analysis, forcing people to overthink harmless conversations as if they're playing a high-stakes strategy game. By stamping the word onto literally every mid-tier interaction, it’s lost its punch and just ended up feeling forced, repetitive, and completely overrated.
