The English program at Millbrook High School helps students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers. Through a variety of courses, students explore literature from different time periods and cultures while developing the writing and communication skills needed for college, careers, and everyday life.
Students read novels, short stories, plays, poetry, and informational texts while learning how to analyze ideas, evaluate evidence, and express their own thoughts clearly. Writing is an important part of every course and may include essays, research papers, and creative writing assignments.
Millbrook also offers several advanced and college-level English courses for students who are interested in challenging themselves academically and earning college credit while still in high school.
Across the English program, students work on skills such as:
• reading and analyzing literature
• writing clear and organized essays
• developing arguments supported by evidence
• conducting research and citing sources
• participating in discussions and presentations
The goal of the English department is to help students become confident readers, thoughtful writers, and strong communicators who are prepared for the expectations of college and beyond.
