Warm-up
Discuss: Material Quality
Hit or Miss: A Game of Material Management
Looking ahead-- only two weeks left!
Next week's homework
I can innovate with and explore drawing and mark-making tools.
I can evaluate the possibilities AND limitations of materials.
I can reflect upon my prior experiences with materials of varying qualities.
I can research materials management strategies and gather ideas to add to our collective knowledge base.
This strategy inspired by: DRAWING lab FOR MIXED MEDIA ARTISTS by Carla Sonheim
-How does the perception of drawing change as we get develop and grow?
-What types of drawing carry cultural capital?
-What other types of drawing can be leveraged to perhaps re-engage those learners who feel that they "can't draw"?
-What are developmental considerations when we teach drawing?
When your name is called by our random generator, I will use a virtual coin flip and tell you what your category is.
If the coin is:
Heads: that's a HIT! Please read off a strategy from your list that you think other people besides yourself probably DO have on their list. If you are the NOT the only person with that strategy on your list, that's a point!
Tails: that's a MISS! Please read off a strategy from your list that you think other people probably DON'T have on their list. If you are the only person with that strategy on your list, that's a point!
The person at the end of our game with the most points WINS A FABULOUS PRIZE!
Quite a few media/materials were left out of the scope of our course explorations. For your final project, select one of these "unexplored materials" that you feel particularly excited about to share with your classmates!
MY REQUEST/RECOMMENDATION: try something that you are NOT already an expert in!
More information will be coming next week (this will be your ONLY homework next week, but I wanted to give you some advanced processing time so that you can think ahead)
You will embed your information (blurbs, links, slides, video, Google docs, etc.) on your page of the Archive Google Site
Your site page MUST be ready to go by noon on 10/27
The Criteria:
You are not required to complete a handout AND a page on the archive, but if you enjoy creating beautiful handouts it's something that can DEFINITELY be embedded on your site page AND go into your teaching portfolio.
-If you have unlimited funds?
-If you can only spend $13 per pupil?
Think outside the box as well (or inside the box of the limitations that we have)! Have you ever wondered about making your own salt dough or paper clay? Maybe next week would be an interesting time to try!
