Reflect/Respond in your field journal
I can navigate challenges using my prior knowledge and also following the lead of the materials (their properties and limitations).
I can share the books I have created and my learning to inspire our community of explorers.
I can reflect on my making today in order to deepen my learning.
Fall in love with your field journal. Do something with and in it that makes it feel like you did something really special . Maybe it's writing down some of the thoughts in your head, maybe it's adding some drawing or images to the book that you have been meaning to.
For homework last week, you gathered multiples of the same two household objects, roughly enough of each to fill quart-sized ziplock bags.
For this challenge, pick one of your quart-sized bags full of the same object and create a "book" by binding your multiples together.
Questions for consideration:
What does it mean to bind together?
What book structures/binding methods (traditional or unconventional!) do you already know of?
-Will your prior knowledge of book forms help or hinder you? Can you use it or would it be helpful to forget the "rules"?
What properties and limitations do your multiples have?
How might you attach one to the next?
What sorts of materials do you need?
What do you have to work with?
How can you resolve issues if there are discrepancies between what you have and what you need?
or
What are your biggest take-aways from today?
What was happening in your brain when you were trying to bind together your multiples?
What challenges did you encounter?
How did you overcome challenges?
What did you experience that surprised you?
What did you discover that you can use in the future*?
*in your daily life, in your mental/emotional life, in your personal art practice, and/or in your teaching practice
