I know this is a quick turn-around for reading, so read with a focus:

Please specifically look at their recommendations for MATERIALS MANAGEMENT and add to your list in your field journal (we will use these in an activity tomorrow)

Survey your materials

Survey the drawing and painting materials that you have around you (conventional and unconventional!).

Step 1:

Pick three materials and really push them. What are their properties? Their strengths? Their limitations? Do they respond better to specific surfaces?

While you're working I STRONGLY suggest that you listen to this interview with Lynda Barry (on the right)

Step 2: Think back to your previous experiences as an artist-learner and answer the following questions:

What excellent experiences have you had with drawing and painting materials & surfaces?
What terrible experiences have you had with drawing and painting materials & surfaces?
From your experiences as an artist-learner, when is it important to spend the extra $$ on higher quality materials? Come to class tomorrow night ready to discuss
