To Generate a Google Meet link

In Google Classroom The Meet link generated can be easily accessed by members of the class. Students are automatically taken to a waiting room until the Teacher joins the Meet. Host Control are automatically turned on giving the teacher the ability to restrict what participants can do in the meet.


To Create a Meet link in your class

  1. Sign into Google Classroom

  2. Click the class.

  3. Under Meet, click Generate link. ...

  4. A Meet link appears for your class.

  5. Click Save.

To Create a Meet link using Google Meet

  1. Go to Google Meet.

  2. Click New Meeting.

  3. Select an option:

    • Create a meeting for later:

      • To share the meeting details for a future meeting, copy the meeting link and share with participants.

      • To directly start the meeting with this link, paste the link into a browser; or enter the link into the “Enter a code or link” field click Join.

    • Start an instant meeting: Create a new meeting and join the meeting directly.

    • Schedule in Google Calendar: To schedule a meeting, you’re directed to Google Calendar.

      • Fill out the meeting details. ...

      • Click "Join with Google Meet" when ready to start. ...

      • Click "Join Now" or "Present" ...

      • Navigate meeting options.

Create a Google Meet from Email

Visit meet.google.com homepage

The Google Meet home page give you several new options:

  • Create a meeting for later: Generate joining information for a new meeting. You can save this information to use later.

  • Start an instant meeting: Join a meeting in one click, without first going to the Meet greenroom. Once in the meeting, you can add others or copy the joining information to share.

  • Schedule in Google Calendar: Go to Calendar in a new tab to create an event with Meet conferencing details automatically populated.


Google Meet tips for Distance Learning Students

  • Share Established Norms before you Meet. Try these.

  • Teachers should be the last to leave the meeting.

  • Change the layout of your Meet to view more students. Click on the Google Meet menu (3 vertical dots in the lower right hand corner). Click on Change Layout, select tiled.

  • Use Page Marker or Web Paint Chrome Extension to annotate your screen while sharing it. Add Extensions

  • Wait for all students to exit the meet before you exit.

How to change the Google Meet layout

  • Auto—Allows Meet to choose the layout for you.

  • Tiled—Shows up to 16 people when there is no presentation.

    • Move your mouse to see participant names.

    • If someone joins after the meeting starts, their image is at the bottom of the screen.

    • Presentations appear in a large tile, with the most active participants to the side.

  • Spotlight—The presentation, active speaker, or pinned feed fills the window.

  • Sidebar—You see the active speaker or presentation with additional participants on the side.
