The Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 24, 2021.
Many consider Homecoming weekend one of the most significant and exhilarating events of the year. To start off, the Homecoming football game took place on Friday, September 24th. The Medina Bees defeated the Euclid Panthers 40-0. Beforehand, the traditional Homecoming parade featuring Homecoming Queen Dalyah Cargill occurred at 6:00pm. The Homecoming dance the following day differentiated slightly from previous dances.
This year the dance was held outside on the field of Ken Dukes Stadium instead of the gymnasium, due to Covid restrictions. Students mainly enjoyed this arrangement. MHS senior Kayla Parker stated, “I think it was a different experience and it was fun to try something new.”
Another student, Mia Chan, thought, “It wasn’t too cold and it had more room than the gym.”
The students were thankful the dance did not have to be moved indoors due to rain. Doors opened at 7:00pm and the dance took place during the hours of 7:30pm-10:00pm. Students entered through the main gate of the stadium in the B parking lot and had to have their student ID and ticket ready.
The school spirit Homecoming instills was very prevalent. The family game night themed halls were exciting to walk through. Student Kendall Marple said the Jumanji themed hallway was her favorite. She stated, “It made me feel like I was walking through a jungle.”
Another aspect that added to school spirit was the fireworks after the game. It is fortunate all of the traditional Homecoming activities still occurred this weekend despite covid restrictions.
