The marching band field commanders.
“A tradition of excellence, shattering standards with pride in our eyes.” This is the mission statement used by the Medina Musical Bees marching band. Our Medina marching band can be recognised across the state as being a very committed and musical group of students and staff that have overcome boundaries to share their music.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the band was not able to compete like they would in a typical season, however the show never stopped. The marching band performed their 2020-2021 show “We Can-Can Do This” at our home stadium with friends and family members supporting them in the stands. Although this presents many challenges for the band, they managed to overcome the hardships and perform a show.
This year the marching band will continue their tradition of competing with their memorial show, “Victory”. The students and staff are obviously ecstatic to share their show with others and continue making memories with their friends and family.
So now that the marching band will be able to perform in front of judges and other competition bands, senior trumpet section leader and vice president of the band Nick Carano was asked what he was most excited for the upcoming season. He went on to express how excited he was for the “friendship and comradery from your section, and winning competitions and walking off the competition field with your friends.”
Ms. Snide, one of the assistant band directors for the Medina Musical Bees was also asked what she was looking forward to competing again. She went on to explain how she is excited to “see how far the band can advance with music and marching techniques now that there is an end in sight, as well as receiving feedback from judges.”
With the season finally taking off, the band is excited to start sharing their memorial show, “Victory”, to the families and friends of veterans. Ms. Blasco, one of the other assistant directors was questioned on what does the show “Victory” mean to you? She responded by saying, “it’s meaningful to me because of the tribute and [honor] we are paying to the 'Greatest Generation’ for their sacrifices and the way we are honoring our own Musical Bees WWII veterans.” With the best intentions and regards to past soldiers, the Musical Bees will continue their tradition of excellence, despite the challenges they have faced the past year, and look towards the future with pride in their eyes.
