As soon as I stepped foot in this Mexican restaurant, Tres Potrillos an instant whiff of freshly baked tortilla chips fresh out of the oven. The walls filled with decorations like the big moon and sun placed on the overhead arch, along with a flower engulfed tunnel, leading the way to the hostess stand. The restaurant has a warm-toned, welcome feel.
A friendly face greets you instantly at the door and provides a comfortable table where the employees are almost immediately greeted by someone with a freshly baked basket with chips and some salsa. I can assure you will not be left hungry in this restaurant. I was quite quickly helped by a waiter who took my drink order. Under her voice is an accent that reassures this food is as authentic as it gets here in America.
Upon meeting the owner I learned that this restaurant has been serving since 2004 and gives people a chance to eat over one hundred options on the menu. They put an emphasis on the freshness their food offers and the authentication their Mexican cuisine deserves. I can assure you will not be left hungry in this restaurant.
I started off with chips and queso, handmade every day, and it was phenomenal. I took it upon myself to order Fajitas Texans, which came with a side plate and within less than ten minutes I heard loud sizzling in my left ear before a steamy plate filled with crisp chicken, beef, shrimp, and veggies was set down in front of me. This was accompanied by a side plate containing fried beans, fried rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce, and tomato salsa. Everything had come out looking perfectly delicious and I was extremely satisfied.
While I continued eating, the table next to me was celebrating a birthday. They were introduced with a fried ice cream with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. The little boy was given a sombrero to wear and sang happy birthday in Spanish. This was unique.
I can honestly say the day I was there, I was unable to see any weaknesses from my point of view. A recommendation for this restaurant is well deserved so I am going to give them just that. Tres Potrillos is a very well put together restaurant that completely engulfs the Mexican cuisine and does well representing it to everyone who passes through. The food is absolutely delicious and the staff is unbelievably welcoming. I would gladly give more business to this restaurant.
The Addams Family Review by Briley Potter
From entering the auditorium, it was clear that The Addams Family production at Medina High School was not something to be viewed and forgotten. The ambiance was contagious with the darkly lit stage, filled seating, and animated murmurs about the show that could not begin soon enough. The auditorium lights went down as the stage lit up, signaling the start of the show and an immediate silence spread over the crowd but it wasn’t quiet for long because seconds later the well-known Addams Family theme song echoed through the walls and the viewers couldn’t help but clap along to the familiar tune. The mood of the watchers was evident in the way shouts and cheers reverberated in the seats.
What really blew the audience away was the talent shown by the young students who truly brought the show to life. As Morticia Addams, Livy Douglas truly inspired us with her attention to detail. Her body language with the way she held herself was nothing short of genuine Morticia Addams. Her fellow actor, Andrew Falkosy, who played the part of Gomez Addams, showed his true dedication to the role by managing to sing, dance, and speak with energy all while never once losing control of his Gomez-esque accent. The attention to pronunciation, the tone and volume were all successfully and impressively maintained throughout the entire performance. Falkosy’s voice was not the only talent attesting to the commitment the students put into their roles. Senior Gabi Ilg, in the role of Wednesday Addams, had the crowd on the edge of their seats just waiting for her to sing again. Her solo, “Pulled,” victoriously showcased her talent when her beautiful voice and impressive control wowed the audience from the very beginning and left them itching for more. Wednesday’s boyfriend, Luke Beineke, acted by Trynter Stiles was not short of his own singing gifts but what really inspired the crowd was his chemistry he had with each character he acted with. Whether he was with his family or the Addams, every interaction was realistic and convincing.
The young cast, the grand set, and the chilling atmosphere all worked to ensure an entertaining show and a well spent two and a half hours. The time flew by and when the final song rang through the crowd signaling the end, the entire audience filled the space with cheers and applause. The young actors and actresses took their bow and the seats began to empty as friends, parents, and inspired strangers all ran out to meet them. Overall, the production of The Addams Family will forever be remembered at Medina High School.
Beauty and the Beast Review by Lauren Grandstaff
Directed by Bill Condon, the movie Beauty and the Beast was released on March 17, 2017. The film is rated PG for action, violence. and peril and I agree as it did have some intense sequences. This new adaptation is based on Disney's Beauty and the Beast by Linda Woolverton and includes stunning visuals, new songs, and an all-star cast. The cast, in this tale as old as time, is packed with dynamic actors and actresses including Dan Stevens (Beast), Luke Evans (Gaston) , Emma Thompson (Mrs. Potts), Josh Gad (LeFou), and Emma Watson (Belle).
Emma Watson, known for her lead role in Harry Potter, portrays Belle, an intelligent, inventive, and headstrong young woman. This new film is filled to the brim with remarkable dance sequences and phenomenal vocals with both depth and range. The story follows Belle as she bravely trades places with her father and is held captive by the Beast. While confined, she befriends the magical castle staff: Lumiere the candlestick, Cogsworth the clock, Ms. Potts the teapot and many others. Sprinkled throughout the film are the classic songs including Belle, “Be Our Guest”, and “Gaston” alongside several new hits such as “Days in the Sun” and “How Does a Moment Last Forever”.
When Belle is invited to dinner, the castle staff surprise her with a magical dance sequence to the tune of Be Our Guest sung by Lumiere and the ensemble of dining utensils. The 3D digital effects team shined as they created a realistic dining room scene complete with dancing napkins, plates, silverware and much more. As the story continues, Belle begins to fall in love with the Beast by looking beyond his physical appearance to the true heart within. While Belle is at the castle, Gaston starts to lead the townspeople into a frenzy that results in them storming the castle. Belle must realize her love for the Beast before it is too late, but can she make it back to the castle in time?
This movie blew me away as I didn't believe it could top the original, but I was wrong. Worldwide the film made $1.264 billion and is one of the highest grossing live action musicals of all time. With its dynamic cast, crew, and breathtaking CGI, it is a movie to be remembered. Some of the songs could be repetitive at times but the overall soundtrack and score did a fantastic job of pulling you in and not letting go! The use of both original and new songs was a smart decision to modernize this new adaptation.
