The Symphonic Band is an advanced-level concert band open to brass, woodwind, and percussion musicians in grades 10-12. This ensemble performs at Walter Johnson High School's winter and spring concerts, and all students who have passed Concert Band (or a band class of equivalent level) are open to enroll for this class!

Official Course Description -- Symphonic Band (ART2094)
0.5 credit per semester
Students develop skills that will enable them to perform music at the Grade IV to VI level of difficulty. The emphasis will be on the study of literature composed originally for the concert band and wind ensemble during the 20th and 21st centuries. Additional experiences may include athletic bands, solo/chamber performance, or musical theatre opportunities. In addition to performing music, creating and responding activities are included. Public performances during and after school may be required to meet course objectives. This course may be repeated unlimited times for credit.
Prerequisite: Concert Band or by audition, and the need to balance instrumentation as determined by the director
Grade Level: 10 - 11 - 12
Unlimited repeats for subject credit
This is an Advanced-Level (AL) course which counts towards the MCPS Certificate of Merit (CM)
