The difference between a job, volunteer position, and internship is partnership with the BCC. For a job or volunteer position to count as an internship, the supervisor must be willing to fulfill the employer responsibilities. A brief overview of these responsibilities include sharing a quarterly evaluation with the school, verifying student submitted hours, and being open to host the internship teacher for site visits or check in calls. A full description of these responsibilities is available here.
Internships can be paid or unpaid experiences. In either case, students receive school credit for their work at their internship site.
The intern's schedule is determined by you and your intern. Some students go to their internship every school day, while other's may only go in twice a week but for a longer duration. Your intern should be averaging either 5, 10, or 15 hours per week, depending on the number of periods they are enrolled in internship class at BCC.
Yes. The internship schedule is determined by the employer and the intern.
Luckily this question is not very frequently asked, but the answer is yes. While we encourage employers to communicate concerns early so we can support both the employer and the student, internships are professional placements and may be ended if the arrangement is not working out.
Students are unavailable during school hours. The students will leave school at the following times, depending on the number of periods they are enrolled in.
Single period - 1:45
Double period - 1:00
Triple period - 12:00
Additionally, there will be one day per week where the students meet for internship class, on which they will not leave school until 2:30.
There is no limit on the number of interns you may take on!
