These are the 3 of the 4 expressive skills. For your story, character or meaning to be understood in a mime performance, all 3 must be used with specificity.
We can use CLIC, PRESSURE, FIDELITY and FOCUS to achieve this specificity.
CLIC - the ability to isolate each part of the movement or gesture, often using a micro-pause.
PRESSURE - use of muscular tension to reveal the weight of the object.
FIDELITY - staying true to what you have created, keeping track of objects.
FOCUS - commitment to the world and your eye gaze.
You will be placed in a group of 4-5 people. We will discuss the timeline of the task together in class.
In your group, you will create a 5 minute MIME performance that must include the following criteria (choose option A or option B):
OPTION A
A teenager
A neighbour
A lazy dog
A fat cat
An annoying parent
An excited friend
A tragic ending
At least one TABLEAUX
Consideration of STATUS, RELATIONSHIP and CONFLICT
Clear use of SPACE to reveal where everything takes place.
OPTION B
A parent
A child
A lazy lion
An ineffectual lion tamer
A sad clown
Ring Master
A tragic ending
At least one TABLEAUX
Consideration of STATUS, RELATIONSHIP and CONFLICT
Clear use of SPACE to reveal where everything takes place.
Follow the usual good storytelling rules - have a clear beginning, middle and end. That said, you can always include a ‘flashback’ if you like…
