Welcome to Drama in Year 9. In this unit you will explore:
1. EXPRESSIVE SKILLS PERFORMANCE (Week 4)
You will create a devised performance in a group, in which you will need to demonstrate your use of expressive skills - facial expressions, movement and gesture - to portray a character.
Your story must include the following: A teenager, a neighbour, a lazy dog, a fat cat, annoying parent, a tragic ending. Follow the usual good storytelling rules - have a clear beginning, middle and end. Extension: you could include a flashback or other break in linear storytelling.
Your performance must demonstrate understanding and application of the following drama techniques: tableaux (freeze frame), consideration of STATUS, RELATIONSHIP and CONFLICT, use of SPACE to reveal where everything takes place (setting).
Please note that students are individually assessed.
2. ABC SCENES PERFORMANCE (Week 8)
In groups of 2-3, you will be given a short 'neutral' scene. You will have create the given circumstances of the story, as well as a character biography.
With this script work, you will use elements of Stanislavski's method to rehearse and perform the scene in a Naturalistic style.
You will be assessed individually on your application of expressive skills (voice, movement, facial expressions and gesture) to portray the character and the story according to the choices you have made.
3. THEATRE HISTORY RESEARCH TASK (Week 2 of Term 4)
This task entails individual completion of research and written project according to criteria, and then collaboration with a group to present key findings and a relevant practical task or example.
