There is no need for an accent (eg. American)
MONOLOGUE 1: LITTLE RED (recommended for thoses auditioning for the roles of: Little Red)
Mother says to keep to the path. Mother says not to dawdle. Honestly, all these rules! The woods are just trees, I mean, look at this cape- Doesn’t the red just pop.
(She sees the Wolf.)
Oh! Good Day Mr. Wolf. Where is it I am off to you ask, well my Grandmothers… no no I’m sorry my mother said straight ahead. Straight to granny’s.
Yes, the flowers do look pretty, I guess a small delay won’t hurt, granny might like a fresh bouquet.
(While Little Red picks some flowers, the baker runs past and goes to take her cape)
What are you doing with my cape. I don’t like to be without it. Please give it back.
(Little Red stands numb for a moment and then lets out a bloodcurdling scream following by hysteric weeping).
MONOLOGUE 2: BAKER (recommended for those audtioning for the roles of: Baker, Prince or Wolf)
(The Baker rubs his temples, feeling overwhelmed by the strange demands of the quest. He tries to recite the list of ingredients to himself.)
"The items. The items. I must remember them exactly. If I miss one thing, one detail... the curse stays. The cow as white as milk, the cape as red as blood... no, wait, is it as white as snow? I can't even remember my own laundry, let alone a magical list of impossible objects!
(He takes a nervous, hurried breath.)
I have to focus. I have to focus. If I want a child for my family, I have to go to the wood, Get that cape and the cow and then maybe, just maybe I can go back to just being a baker. Just a simple, honest man who hands out bread, not stolen slippers. And no BEANS. Absolutely no beans. If that’s how this curse started then I want nothing more to do with any beans.
MONOLOGUE 4: WITCH (recommended for those audtioning for the roles of: Witch, Cinderella's step mother, Jack's mother)
Oh, you want a child. You want a family. You want happiness. You people and your wants! You’re begging…always begging, as if I haven’t given up enough already.
I was stunning once! I was glamorous! Now look at me—all thanks to a few stolen beans and a curse that never seems to end!
But you two are responsible. Your family started this mess, and now you have to finish it.
You want your child? Fine. Get me the four ingredients, gathered by tomorrow's midnight. One. the cow as white as milk. Two. The cape as red as blood. Three, The hair as yellow as corn and four, the slipper as pure as gold. Only then can the curse be reversed. But when you get what you wish for, don't come back crying that it's all my fault. Wishes come true, not free!
MONOLOGUE 5: NARRATOR (recommended for those audtioning for the roles of: Narrator or ensemble)
And so the mysterious man died, having helped end the curse on his house. For the Baker, there would be no reunion with his father and he and his wife, bewildered, returned home.
The witch, who had been punished with age and ugliness that night when her beans had been stolen and the lightning flashed, was now returned to her former youth and beauty.
And Milky-White, after a night of severe indigestion, was reunited with the now-wealthy Jack.
And it came to pass, all that seemed wrong was now right, the kingdoms were filled with joy and those who deserved to were certain to live a long and happy life.
MONOLOGUE 6: JACK (recommended for those audtioning for the roles of: Jack)
(Jack is breathless with awe and excitement)
Oh, you should see it! You should see it! The world up there—it’s not like our world at all. Everything is huge! The clouds are like fluffy white mountains, and when you look down, our village is just a little patch of green, like moss on a roof!
And there are giants! Real giants! One of them has golden hair that shines, and lives in a castle that goes on forever!
They didn't even sound angry when I took the harp.
(He beams.)
I'm telling you, those beans—they were not ordinary. They were magical! And if you just climb high enough, you realise there’s always something bigger and more amazing than you ever imagined waiting right there, past the clouds!- There are giants in the sky!
MONOLOGUE 7: CINDERELLA (recommended for those audtioning for the roles of: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Cinderella's mother, Baker's Wife)
(conversational and questioning)
He's very nice. He is! He dances well, he talks of things that matter, and he never once mentioned the soot on my dress. He saw something in me, something that wasn't my rags.
But I just don’t know. I feel like I should curtsy. I feel like I'm supposed to say the right thing, wear the right shoes, and never, ever make a mess.
He is perfect. It is everything I wished for. So why do I keep leaving? Why do I keep running? I have the power to end my story. If I stay, it means the end. And what if the end is wrong?
It’s a very nice ball and he's a very nice Prince. Perhaps he's too nice. Perhaps that's the problem.
