1. Expressive Skills: Review and Develop
You will extend your acting skills by learning or reviewing the ways to manipulate your Acting Skills: VOICE, FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, GESTURE, MOVEMENT.
Your use of these acting skills reveals the creative choices you have made about a character, which should be based on your understanding of the script.
You will increase your understanding of all the components (the elements of Drama) that are working together in any given piece of theatre, so that effectively communicate a story in performance.
LEARNING TASK 1: EXPRESSIVE SKILLS MINI MONOLOGUE
You will be given a short 2 minute 'neutral' monologue, and you will create your own character history and given circumstances about the script. You will be assessed on your application of Acting Skills and consideration of how to create Tension using these skills in the performance of your monologue.
2. Theatre Performance Analysis
We will see a professional production and learn how to analysis the components of a theatre performance: both acting and design.
LEARNING TASK 2: THEATRE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
A written assessment where you will complete short answer responses about the production you have seen.
3. Introduction to Production Roles and the Production Process
There is a building emphasis on script analysis, and how to use analysis and dramaturgy to understand a text and how to bring it to life onstage.
We will learn terminology and practice activities to understand the various Production Roles and approaches to stagecraft design.
The class collaborates on a production process for a public performance, in which they will both act and execute a chosen production role (Lighting Design, Sound Design, Set Design, Costume Design, Hair and Makeup Design, Props Design).
LEARNING TASK 3: PRODUCTION ROLE PLANNING
You will have selected a Production Role to research, eg. Lighting Designer, Costume Designer.
Using the script that the class will be performing for the final assessment, you will use your understanding of the text (setting, themes and characters) to plan elements of the design. You will demonstrate your understanding of the basic tasks and terminology of your Production role through your documented planning.
LEARNING TASK 4: STAGING THE PLAY
You will be assessed on your contribution, involvement and participation in the rehearsal process of the class performance. You will also be assessed on your expressive skills to portray a character, your contribution to the production process, your professionalism and your reflection on the final performance.
