The actual style or quality of the choreography in Musical Theatre will be defined by the style of the music and the story itself.

For example, the choreography in HAMILTON is very different to the choreography in a classic show like WEST SIDE STORY.

However, some aspects of the choreography, or quality of the performance are very similar across all musical theatre shows, primarily due to the job it has within a show.

• to reveal the thoughts and feelings of the character
• to help tell the story
• to respond to the music itself
• to help transition between scenes/set changes
• as a metaphor for themes or symbols in the story
