The Pre-Licensure Testing Policy aims to create a culture of consistency, fairness, validity & reliability, and academic integrity with testing practices, specific to the pre-licensure undergraduate program.
All examinations will be administered in a paperless format, with the exception of the required dosage-calculation test. If extenuating circumstances prevent this, the faculty will determine an alternative method.
Course faculty may provide optional study resources; however, faculty are not required to provide study guides.
Students are expected to use the syllabus, test blueprint, course objectives/concepts, student learning outcomes, class materials, activities, and assigned readings as the primary framework for exam preparation.
Standard items: 70 seconds/question
NGN items: 120 seconds/question
Math calculations: 120 seconds/question
Dosage calculation competency: 180 seconds/question
Backward navigation is restricted for all nursing assessments
Students must take exams on the scheduled day and time. Any deviation from this expectation will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
If an excused absence is granted, the student would be required to:
Complete a make-up exam within 7 calendar days.
Make-up exams will include ≥50% alternate item types
Missed quizzes may result in a zero
Religious absences require ≥24-hour notice
Illness (absence) documentation must be submitted prior to scheduling a make-up exam, or the absence will be unexcused
No additional testing time will be allotted
Failure to complete required proctored assessments or predictor examinations may result in:
Forfeited attempts
Required remediation based on individual performance reports
An incomplete course status until requirements are met (if applicable to the course)
Remediation is a student-driven process focused on reviewing content that was not fully understood, as identified through assessment performance (e.g., proctored assessments, predictor exams, or course-based evaluations).
Students may have access to individualized performance reports identifying topics to review. Targeted remediation resources, such as focused review tools, question banks, and associated learning materials, are strongly recommended to support content mastery and NCLEX readiness.
Faculty will provide guidance on areas for improvement; however, students are responsible for engaging in remediation and determining how and when to complete review activities, in alignment with course expectations.
Grades will be posted within three (3) business days
A minimum of 80% of the total course grade will be derived from testing and/or other summative course activities.
To pass the course, students must achieve:
A minimum overall course grade of 78.00%
The program may adjust benchmarks based on NCLEX performance, regulatory expectations, and program outcomes.
Structured Individual Review
Test review is faculty-guided and focused on learning while maintaining exam integrity.
Requirements:
No personal belongings or electronic devices
No copying, recording, or photographing exam content
Review focuses on clinical reasoning and missed concepts
Item challenges must include a written, evidence-based rationale from course materials/resources only and must be presented to the course instructor within 48 hours.
Students may not discuss exam content with peers at any time.
Collaborative Review
Students may be assigned to small groups
Bonus points (if used) will not exceed 1% of the total course grade
Group review is not available for missed exams
Follow Up
Students scoring below 78.00% must complete an individual review with their course faculty and or SSC advisor to review a study plan.
Students must use approved devices and testing platforms as outlined in the Catalog-Handbook
Device functionality is the student’s responsibility
Technical issues do not automatically qualify as excused
Personal devices required (The student is responsible for their own device. Personal devices should meet IT minimum requirements)
All personal items stored away
Electronic devices powered off
No breaks or leaving testing area without approval
No food; water permitted (label removed)
Only approved erasable whiteboards or surfaces are permitted.
Students must:
Show the surface blank before testing
Erase and show blank after testing
Failure to comply results in a zero.

If technical issues are not resolved before the midpoint of the exam:
The exam attempt is forfeited
Standard make-up procedures apply
